Eucomis comosa 'Oakhurst'
[Chocolate Pineapple Lily]

A good garden is a mixture of color, texture, scent and form. There are many strap foliage plants that add a sense of structure and texture to the garden and Eucomis comosa 'Oakhurst' is a stunning one with attractive burgundy colored leaves and a conical flower head. The pineapple like flower spike consists of masses of burgundy green, star shaped flowers. In flower or out it makes a great show in the garden.

Eucomis comosa comes from the tropical regions of Sth Africa where Clive Larkman saw it in the mid nineties. When he came across this magnificent selection from Terra Nova he felt it a must for the Australian garden. The Pineapple Lily likes warm moist conditions with full sun in a moist soil. It will tolerate light frosts.

Ecomis comosa 'Oakhurst' is an easy to grow, and should be fed with Osmocote once a year in mid spring. It generally grows to around 1m tall and 1.2m wide. Being such a versatile plant it is suited to numerous places in the garden. As a foliage contrast to a bed of Heucheras and Tiarellas, as a new color to a bed of Salvias and Hebes, as an indoor plant or simply in large tubs on the patio. However you use the plant it will reward you.
